Language Scheme

Waterford City & County Council has agreed a new Language Scheme with the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht under the Official Languages Act, 2003. This scheme is operational since the 1st August 2018 and is available to read here:

  • Irish Language Scheme 2018-2021
  • Scéim Teanga 2018-2021
  • Section 11 of the Official Languages Act 2003 provides for the preparation by a public company of a statutory scheme, outlining the details of the services that it will provide:

  • through the medium of Irish,
  • through the medium of English, and
  • through the medium of Irish and English.
  • The scheme outlines the services that are available in Irish and that measures that will be taken to improve the amount and the standard of services that will be provided through Irish within an agreed timeframe.
