Cllr. John O’Leary elected Cathaoirleach of Comeragh District

Cllr John O’LearyYesterday, June 18th, 2025, Fianna Fáil representative Cllr. John O’Leary was officially elected Cathaoirleach (Chairperson) of the Comeragh District Council.

Cllr. O’Leary has previously served as Deputy Mayor in 2018/2019 and Mayor of Waterford City and County in 2022/2023. Cllr. O’Leary thanked his predecessor, Cllr. Seánie Power, stating that it was a great honour to be elected as Cathaoirleach and he was looking forward to working with his fellow elected members and Council staff in the year ahead.

The newly elected Cathaoirleach noted that he would continue to work to address housing provision in the Comeragh area to meet the needs of local people, tackle illegal dumping and further emphasised the importance of securing increased funding for the rural roads’ programmes.

Describing Mount Congreve as the jewel in Waterford’s crown, Cllr. O’Leary commended the investment in outdoor recreation schemes including Tower Hill walking trail and Comeragh Mountain trails upgrade.

Cllr. Liam Brazil was elected Leas Cathaoirleach.
