Cllr. Niamh O’Donovan elected Cathaoirleach of Dungarvan/Lismore
On June 9th 2025, Fine Gael representative Councillor Niamh O’Donovan was officially elected Cathaoirleach (Chairperson) of the Dungarvan/Lismore District Council. Cllr. O’Donovan has served the Lismore electoral area since her election in June 2024.
At the Council meeting, she secured six votes to Sinn Féin’s Kate O’Mahoney’s three. In her acceptance speech, Cllr. O’Donovan expressed her gratitude and pledged her full dedication, saying,
“Being before you today as your newly elected chair is both a profound honour and a humbling responsibility. I am deeply grateful for the trust you placed in me, and I pledge to serve our community with integrity, dedication and unwavering commitment. The district of Lismore and Dungarvan is a community rich in history, culture, and resilience. As we look to the future, I am dedicated to fostering an environment where every citizen feels valued and heard. Together, we will work towards sustainable development, enhanced public services, and a vibrant local economy.”
Since taking her seat on Waterford City and County Council in June 2024, Cllr. O’Donovan has championed youth participation, rural development, and community-led initiatives. Her background in youth justice and local athletics has shaped a grassroots approach.
