Draft Bye-Laws for the Segregation, Storage and Presentation of Household and Commercial Waste

Notice is hereby given that Waterford City & County Council proposes to make new Bye-Laws, in accordance with the Local Government Act 2001 and the Waste Management Act 1996, to regulate and control the Segregation, Storage and Presentation of Household and Commercial Waste within its functional area.

It is proposed to make provision in the bye-laws for the imposition of a fixed payment of €75 in respect of a contravention of a bye-law as an alternative to a prosecution, as provided for in Section 206 of the Local Government Act 2001.

These bye-laws repeal the Waterford City Council (Storage, Presentation and Segregation for the purpose of and in the course of the Collection of Household Waste) Bye-Laws 2008.

The Draft Bye-Laws are available for public inspection here and are also available for public inspection, free of charge, at the Waterford City and County Council Offices, in Baileys New Street, Waterford and in the Civic Offices, Dungarvan, Co Waterford during normal office hours (daily from 9.30am until 4.00pm Monday to Friday, excluding Bank & Public Holidays) from Monday 30th  July, 2018 until Tuesday 18th September, 2018.  A copy of the Draft Bye-Laws will be given free of charge to any person applying it at these offices.

Waterford City & County Council will consider any submissions made in relation to the draft Bye Laws. Submissions can be made, in writing before 4pm on Wednesday 26th September, 2018 to the Environment Department, Waterford City and County Council, City Hall, The Mall, Waterford or by email to

Submissions should state the name, address and where relevant, the body represented. All comments submitted, including the names and addresses of those making the comments, will form a report to be presented to Waterford City & County Council, and will form part of a public document.
