Survey regarding Community Recognition Fund 2023 launched

The Community Recognition Fund 2023 (‘the Fund’) aims to support the development of community infrastructure and facilities in recognition of the contribution being made by communities across the country in welcoming and hosting significant numbers of arrivals from Ukraine and other countries.

The funding is specifically targeted at projects that are located in communities, towns and villages where the highest levels of new arrivals are located – see target areas below.  Projects must be capital in nature and cannot be used to fund or co-fund existing financial commitments from any Government Scheme already approved.

Waterford City & County Council would like to have your input of what community capital projects you would like to see developed or enhanced under this fund.   Projects must directly address local needs and be capable of being delivered over the course of 2023 and early 2024.

Waterford City & County Council will consider all survey submissions before submitting a funding proposal application to the Department of Rural & Community Development.

Target areas:

Areas that have or will host greater than 50 arrivals from the Ukraine and other countries will receive Priority 1 status when assessing submitted projects.   Those areas are:     Waterford City, Tramore, Dungarvan, Lismore & Tallow.

Areas that have or will host greater than 10 arrivals will receive Priority 2 status as follows:  Kilmacthomas, Kilmeaden/Ballyduff Lower, Ballymacarbry, An Rinn, Ardmore, Cappoquin, Faithlegg, Passage East & Dunmore East.

Call for supply of Waterford corporate gifts

The Local Enterprise Office is making a public call out on behalf of Waterford City & County Council, seeking expression of interest to supply corporate gifts

Every year the Council presents dozens of corporate gifts to dignitaries visiting our City and County. The gifts are also brought when Waterford officials are visiting other countries on behalf of the county. Corporate gifts representing our heritage have travelled all over the world, in recent times to countries such as Germany, Spain, Norway, Ukraine and China.

At the launch of the appeal, Honor Dunphy of Corporate Services with Waterford City and County Council elaborated on the importance of these gifts, “These are more than just token gifts presented to visitors, they are expected to be a representation of what is best about our City and County. The wealth of heritage that comes with the Waterford name and its international prominence makes the choice of these corporate gifts extremely important. They travel all over the world and are given to only the most influential guests. We take it very seriously and expect our suppliers to also.”

The procurement of these gifts by Waterford City and County Council is not only an honour for the suppliers, but it can also be a lucrative source of income and international publicity. Brid Kirby of the Local Enterprise Office Waterford explains what it entails, “Waterford’s craft and design industry has a rich heritage but is also currently extremely vibrant. We at the LEO have a wide range of local craft clients with international reputations and renown. But we are aware that there might be other businesses not on our radar who could fulfil this requirement. We wish to cast the net wide and see what is on offer.

“We are looking for a range of non-perishable corporate gifts which represent our county at its best to be given to visiting dignitaries or brought abroad as gifts on civic trips.”

The Department of Corporate Services will ultimately select which local suppliers will provide this service, but for now the Local Enterprise Office is seeking expressions of interest from Waterford businesses who think they have product which would be suitable.

  • Simply visit Waterford’s Local Enterprise Office website and click https://www.localenterprise.ie/!YGLZG0 where you can submit your expression of interest to be a supplier of corporate gifts for Waterford City and County Council.
  • Expression of Interest forms must be completed via the link by 5pm on Monday January 30th. 

All completed Expression of Interest Forms will be reviewed and applicants will be contacted by early February whether or not they have been successful. All successful applicants will get to pitch their products in late February.

Final call for funding under Transitional LEADER Programme 2021-2022

The following information workshop will be held in advance of opening the final call for funding under the Transitional LEADER Programme 2021-2022.

The short timeline for this call does not facilitate built infrastructure (works) type projects.
Participation in our information session is compulsory if you intend to apply for funding.

Upon registration, an Expression of Interest Form will be forwarded for completion to bring along to the Information Session. Help is provided on the night if required Following participation in our workshop, Waterford Leader Partnership CLG, on behalf of County Waterford LCDC, will invite applications for funding with a closing date of Friday 5th August at 12 noon.

Invitation to application stage does not mean that you will be awarded grant aid as it is a competitive process. (Please note that the minimum grant amount is €1,250 and the maximum is €157,549.81)

Funding may be awarded under all themes and sub themes to a maximum of 75% of the total project cost for private promoters and up to 75% for community group applicants. Consideration of the rate of aid offered will be done on a project-by-project basis.

One Month to go to Street Feast 2022

For the first time in three years neighbours and communities will be able to reconnect and celebrate together in person at Street Feast 2022.  Registrations for Street Feast are now open and organisers are aiming for 1200 feasts with 100,000 people participating around the country on Sunday 26th June.

Street Feast is Ireland’s national day of lunches and one of Ireland’s most successful community initiatives for over a decade. The aim of Street Feast is to build neighbourhood and community networks and tackle social isolation. In 2019 over 1000 feasts took place, this year Street Feast is aiming to grow that to 1200 and the organisers feel there is a real appetite for this type of event since Covid:

“Since the last Street Feast three years ago after  two years of restrictions and lockdowns our notion of community has altered immeasurably. For some it was an opportunity to bond with neighbours as lockdown restrictions kept us at home more than ever before. Neighbours and community were never more important and people realised the value of local connections. This year Street Feast wants to celebrate those strengthened community connections and create a space for people to re-engage safely with their neighbours”

96% of Street Feast participants in 2019 said their sense of belonging to the neighbourhood increased after that feast and 97% said their neighbourhood was friendlier after the event. 81% of participants made plans for more community projects since their feast.

“Numerous studies have shown that social isolation is a risk factor for loneliness which itself is associated with an increased risk of poor health, low wellbeing and mortality. Street Feast has huge benefits in terms of reducing social isolation and creating a sense of belonging. We are calling on more people to get involved this year and celebrate these connections by feasting together in person”

Street Feast 2022 is supported by the Department of Rural & Community Development and the Local Authorities.

This year Street Feast is teaming up with community engagement platform ChangeX through the LEGO Foundation’s Build a World of Play campaign to bring more play, more fun and more energy to Street Feasts. Street Feast is supporting the Build a World of Play campaign by providing 200 Playful Street Feast PlayBoxes containing games, activities and resources to bring a fresh playful energy to your street and involve people of all ages in the festivities. These PlayBoxes will be available in addition to the standard Street Feast pack that each host receives when they register which include bunting, invitations, posters and all the information needed to have a brilliant Street Feast!

The aim of this award is to encourage more collaboration between artists across the ArtLinks counties and support artists seeking to expand their practice and networks regionally.

The Collaboration Award is open to application by Professional and Emerging Artists who are members of ArtLinks. For this bursary there will be one award of up to €10,000. The award must involve collaboration between artists from two or more ArtLinks counties in the development of new work, to be showcased in two or more ArtLinks counties.

ArtLinks is a partnership of the four Local Authority Arts Offices in Wexford , Waterford, Carlow and Kilkenny , and is supported by the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon. Ukrainian Refugee Community Response

A Community Response Forum has been established in Waterford and aims to put in place the necessary structures and supports that are required for Ukrainian refugees that may come to Waterford.

The forum aims to source and provide accommodation for refugees and to enable the necessary community support at local level.

Outlined below is our ask of our Waterford communities, together with online links to feed back TWO requests for vital information required, namely:

1.     Call to set up of Ukrainian Refugee Response Group in each community/area:

We are asking that every community set up a Ukrainian refugee response group – either as a sub-group of an existing registered organization/voluntary group, or nominate a main group within the community to act as the lead and liaison with Waterford Council.   Communities and parishes can join up with neighbours if needed but the important thing is that every community within Waterford is covered geographically by the refugee response groups.

We ask now that you provide your details by completing the following online survey by close of business on Tuesday 5th April.

We will hold a meeting of the Ukrainian Refugee Response Groups on Thursday evening 7th April – details to be issued to primary contacts as submitted on the survey above.

2.     Identify available and potentially available accommodation/community facilities that can be used to provide emergency shelter or accommodation to Ukrainian refugees within your communities:

We ask that you compile a list of available and potentially available accommodation and community facilities that could be used to provide emergency shelter or accommodation to Ukrainian refugees within your communities.   We ask that you complete this survey as soon as is possible.  This link will remain open until further notice.
