Definitions

CPO & CPA – A Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) under the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended) or Housing Act 1966 (as amended) and a Compulsory Purchase Acquisition (CPA) under the Derelict Sites Act 1990 (as amended) is a legal tool which may be used by the Local Authority, to compulsorily acquire land or property in order to support building development, regeneration or infrastructure projects that are in the public interest.


Vesting Order – A Vesting Order is a legal document that transfers ownership of land to an acquiring authority, even if the owner does not agree.  A vesting order may be made in advance of agreement to compensation terms where the Local Authority needs control for infrastructural projects that are in the public interest.
