If you drive in Waterford City and County, you need to know the rules about parking.

eParking - Pay by App or Online


The Waterford eParking service is in operation at Waterford Council owned car parks, and on-street parking spots.

Use Waterford eParking to pay for parking anywhere in Waterford where paid Waterford Council parking is in operation. The eParking service offers user friendly and instant parking from your phone and computer!

The app is operated by ParkMagic – this means that if you already have a ParkMagic or TollTag.ie account, you can use your existing login details and credit balance with Waterford eParking.

Download now at the App Store or Google Play or download via QR code on our information stickers on parking metres and car park signage.

Please note : Many car parks in Waterford are privately owned and therefore operate on their own terms, pricing etc.  Waterford City & County Council has no remit in regard to these car parks.

Where to Park ?


You can park in any valid Waterford Council owned pay parking space using a Pay-and-Display ticket or disc.

  1. Parking in Dungarvan
  2. Parking in Tramore
  3. Parking in Waterford City

Alternatively,

  • In a multi-storey car park.
  • In a private car park.
  • In any other location not included in the list of “Where Not to Park”, as shown below.

Where not to Park


There are several areas in Waterford City and County where you are not allowed to park. If you ignore these restrictions you could be issued with a parking ticket, or be towed away.

Areas where you are not allowed to park include:

Double Yellow Lines
No parking on a double-yellow line at any time.


Single Yellow Lines
No parking during the hours indicated on the street sign. This usually lasts from 8.30am – 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday.


Parking Bays Reserved for People with Disabilities
No parking at any time except where a valid disabled parking permit (blue badge) is displayed in the vehicle.  For a map of locations of Disabled Parking Bays, see here.


Loading Bays
No parking during the hours indicated on the street sign. This usually lasts from 7.00am – 12.00pm, Monday to Saturday. Vehicles with a goods tax disc can park in a loading bay for a maximum of 30 minutes while actively loading or unloading.


Bus Lanes
No parking or stopping during the hours indicated on the street sign.


Cycle Lanes or Tracks
For mandatory cycle tracks, no parking or stopping is permitted at any time. A mandatory cycle track is indicated by a solid white line. For non-mandatory cycle tracks, you can park for a maximum of 30 minutes while actively loading or unloading a vehicle. A non-mandatory cycle track is indicated by a broken white line. Cycle tracks operate on a 24 hour basis unless otherwise indicated on a time plate.


Pedestrian areas
A vehicle cannot be driven or parked in a pedestrian area during the hours indicated on the street sign.


Bus/Coach Parking
No parking for any vehicles other than a bus or coach, unless otherwise indicated on a street sign. The maximum stay for buses/coaches is also indicated on the street sign.


Taxi Ranks
No parking during the times indicated on the time plate.


Bus Stops
No parking at any time.


Other restricted areas
It is illegal to park in a way which interferes with traffic flow or obstructs or endangers other road users, for example:

  • No parking opposite a continuous white line.
  • No parking on a footpath (either partly or wholly).
  • No parking within 5 metres of a junction.
  • No parking at a pedestrian crossing or traffic lights, within 15 metres on the approach side or 5 metres on the other side.
  • Do not obstruct any entrance for vehicles, except with the occupier’s consent.
  • No parking at a school entrance.
  • No parking on a grass margin or median.

Electric Vehicles and Free Parking


The Council operate free parking for EV and PHEV vehicles while charging at designated public EV charging points throughout Waterford City and County.

The Council has also undertaken a significant investment in 2023 with the installation of 12 new fast EV charging points being delivered across the city and county during the year.

Small Business Delivery Permit


The Council permits small businesses who do not have separate vehicles for personal and business use to use their private vehicle for limited deliveries to their place of business. The permit will allow the vehicle to be used in a legal parking space on a specified street adjoining the business premises only for a period of 30 minutes while actively loading or unloading, without the requirement to display a pay and display ticket.

Only businesses in good standing with the Rates Department are eligible for this permit. The permit costs €15 and can be applied for using the application form below.
