Status Orange Weather Warning for Waterford

The public is advised that Storm Agnes will bring spells of heavy and occasionally intense rain, combined with strong and gusty winds.  The wind warning is valid from 9am until 5pm, with the rain warning valid from 9am to 3pm today (Wednesday, September 27th).

The OPW has advised that there will be a period of storm surge and Highest Astronomical Tide (HAT) are expected to be exceeded in areas around the coast during this period.

Storm surge around Waterford Estuary is forecast to be significant and in the range of approximately 60cm and this will coincide with astronomical spring tides close to Highest Astronomical Tide.

Kieran Kehoe, Director of Services with Waterford City and County Council has urged the public to exercise caution.  “With the possibility of severe winds and localised and coastal flooding, driving conditions will be difficult, there is the risk of localised flooding, fallen trees and branches and poor visibility, all which will make journeys hazardous.

“Waterford City and County Council’s severe weather management team is monitoring the situation, and ground crews are on stand-by to deal with any issues that may arise.  We would urge the public to heed all public safety advice and avoid unnecessary journeys until Storm Agnes has receded.”

Members of the public can continue to contact Waterford City and County Council’s Customer Services Desks on 0818 10 20 20 during normal office hours after which calls will be transferred to the Council’s emergency services number.
