Waterford City & County Council is the local authority responsible for local government in Waterford, since its formation in June 2014 following the merger of Waterford County Council and Waterford City Council.

This Council is responsible for service delivery in the areas of Housing, Community, Roads and Transportation, Planning, Economic Development, Environment, Culture and Amenity.  In order to action the delivery of these services, we employ over 800 staff in a wide variety of administrative, technical, craft and operative grades across the organisation, headed up by the Chief Executive.

This local authority has immersed itself in many exciting projects in recent years, some which have reached completion while some are ongoing and providing exciting challenges and career highlights for our enthusiastic staff.

The award winning Waterford Greenway project has particularly strong appeal to visitors, both domestic and overseas. This project undertook the redevelopment of a 46km section of the old railway line from Waterford City to Dungarvan to create an off-road cycling and walking trail which travels through time and nature through a long tunnel and over bridges and viaducts.

In the City, this Council is currently driving a major re-development of the North Quays, on an eight hectare site on the northern waterfront of the River Suir, with office, residential, commercial and leisure development components. This project has the potential to create over 2,500 jobs.
