Further Met Éireann Status Yellow Rain Warning issued for Waterford

Following Storm Chandra all Waterford roads, except R675 Annestown (which will remain closed overnight), have reopened.

While there still remains surface water on the roads and with a further Met Éireann Status Yellow Rain Warning issued for Waterford from 00:00 Thursday (January 29th) to 00:00 Friday (January 30th), Waterford City and County Council is advising motorists to continue to exercise caution when travelling, slow down and increase stopping distances.

Motorists are also reminded to be conscious of vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists.

For any Waterford homes that have been directly affected by Storm Chandra, The Department of Social Protection has opened its Emergency Response Payment (formerly the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme), which provides short time immediate financial support to people whose homes are damaged by flooding or other severe weather events, and who are not able to meet costs for essential needs, household items and, in some instances, structural repair.

The payment may cover:

  • Emergency support payments, such as food, clothing and bedding where loss is experienced through flooding or structural damage to your home due to a severe weather event.
  • Damage to your home and its essential contents, such as carpets, flooring, furniture, household appliances and bedding
  • Structural damage

Stage One of the Emergency Response Payment scheme is now open and remains available until next Wednesday (February 4th, 2026)
