KIMO to host PFAS Webinar highlighting impacts on Coastal Communities
KIMO International will host an online webinar on Tuesday 26th November, focusing on the growing concerns around PFAS, the so called forever chemicals found in materials like Gore Tex, Teflon and many pesticides. These chemicals are increasingly being detected in marine and coastal environments, yet many questions remain about their long term effects on people and places.
Titled The presence and impacts of PFAS on coastal communities: what do we know and how to move forward?, the session will explore what science currently tells us, where the knowledge gaps lie, and the practical steps municipalities can take today to protect their communities.
According to KIMO, although our understanding is improving, there is still much to uncover about the scale of the challenge. The webinar will bring together experts and policymakers at local, national and international levels to share insights, shine a light on emerging research and discuss actions that coastal authorities can begin implementing straight away.
Participants will also help shape a roadmap for future work. The final outcome will be a prioritised list of the most urgent questions that need answers in order to fully understand the burden faced by coastal communities.
