National Tree Week: Growing a Greener Future Together
The theme of National Tree Week 2026, which takes place from March 8th to March 15th, is Growing a Greener Future Together, and reflects the power of partnership and community action in shaping a healthier, more sustainable Ireland.
At the heart of this collaboration is the longstanding partnership between the Tree Council of Ireland and Coillte, working together to support tree planting, biodiversity and environmental awareness nationwide.
Through this partnership, Waterford City and County Council has been able to make 600 saplings available to local schools. While national organisations provide the support and resources, it is the enthusiasm and commitment of local communities that truly bring this initiative to life.
National Tree Week was launched in Waterford last week when a mountain ash tree was presented to St. Angela’s Ursuline Secondary School by Mayor of Waterford City and County, Cllr. Seamus Ryan, with a further 600 saplings being delivered to schools around the county this week.
Mayor of Waterford City and County, Cllr. Seamus Ryan said,
“We are delighted to support National Tree Week, as it creates an awareness about the crucial contribution of trees. By planting native saplings like these, we are taking a practical step toward combating climate change and restoring the biodiversity that is so vital to our island.”
