Rent re-assessments for Housing and HAP tenants affected by the Covid-19 pandemic

In line with the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection guidelines, it is now possible for Waterford City & County Council tenants and HAP customers to apply to have their rent reassessed.

All tenants seeking such a rent reduction due to loss of earnings or employment because of the Covid-19 pandemic, should scan/post a letter from their employer, confirming loss of income or employment to:

This will allow us to begin  re-assessments as quickly as possible.  If there is a time lag in actually changing the rent payment,  adjustments will be backdated. We would stress the importance of tenants continuing to pay rent until the reassessment is complete.

Town & Village Renewal Scheme 2020

Waterford City & County Council will administer the 2020 Town & Village Renewal Scheme funded by the Department of Rural & Community Development. The Town and Village Renewal Scheme is a key part of the Action Plan for Rural Development – Realising our Rural Potential and Project Ireland 2040.

The focus of the Town & Village Renewal Scheme is on improving the economic development of rural towns and villages and making them more attractive places to live and work and increase their tourism potential.

Waterford City & County Council now seeks expressions of interest from towns and villages, particularly those who may not have benefitted from the Scheme previously, for funding of suitable projects under this initiative.

  • Expression of interest forms and details of the scheme outline can be obtained by e-mailing townvillagerenewal@waterfordcouncil.ie and completed expression of interest forms are to be returned before 5.00pm Wednesday 25th March 2020.

All applications will be subject to a selection process using National Criteria. Selected expression of interest applications will be developed into detailed bids for consideration for the 2020 Town & Village Renewal Scheme.

Waterford City & County Council statement on rents for Council tenants

Calculation of rent changes

Council tenants’ rents are calculated with reference to the household’s income. If a tenant’s household income falls due to household members having become unemployed in recent days due to COVID-19, they should notify our rents section and follow their instructions re submission of evidence, etc.

If there is a time lag in actually changing the rent payment, any adjustments will be backdated. We would stress the importance of tenants continuing to pay rent until the recalculation is complete. The rents section can be contacted via email at rentqueries@waterfordcouncil.ie or by phone at 0761 10 2020.

Rent payment options

In light of the advice to heed the recommendations issued by the National Public Health Emergency Team during the current public health emergency, Waterford City & County Council tenants and RAS tenants who currently pay their rent using cash payments are being urged to pay their differential rent by alternative contactless means to avoid any unnecessary contact with others.

This would involve arranging to pay your rent online, via the bank or Post Office. These alternative payment options are being strongly recommended in the interests of public health & safety.

We would request that you contact our customer service desk at 0761 10 2020 or via email at contact@waterfordcouncil.ie, should you require information or assistance in setting up an alternative payment method.
