CURRENT SITUATION
There has been continued flurries of snow throughout the day, with many areas experiencing heavier falls and accumulations.
A “Status Red“ weather alert for Munster has now issued and is valid from 4pm tomorrow (Thursday). Scattered snow showers (some heavy) will continue today (Wednesday), tonight and tomorrow with further accumulations probable.
Schools in Waterford and surrounds are closed until Monday 5th March.
OFFICE CLOSURES
At the time of publication, the following #Waterford Council premises are closed until further notice:
- Waterford City & County Dog Shelter, Bilberry.
- All Council sporting facilities – Dungarvan Sports Centre, the RSC, Williamstown Golf Course & Carrickphierish.
- All Museums and Arts facilities.
All remaining Waterford City & County Council Offices (including libraries) will close to the public today (Wednesday) at 4:30pm and will remain closed on Thursday and Friday of this week.
Phone lines and social media will be manned on Thursday 1st & Friday 2nd March and queries/notifications can be made on these channels. This will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, as resources and weather permits.

GRITTING ROUTES
Our gritting routes and their priorities can be seen on the attached map. Our priority is still keeping the P1 and P2 routes open, and routes will be gritted again today (and ploughed where necessary) at regular intervals.
Some deposits of grit and salt have been made to estate entrances and other metropolitan areas. If people have particular difficulties in exiting housing estates or on hilly roads that aren’t gritted they should call Customer Services desk, we’ll prioritise the calls and get out to them as resources allow. 300 tonnes of grit have been distributed today alone.
Some smaller streets in Waterford city are hazardous. Priority routes include the N25, N72, Tramore Road, the Outer Ring Road and routes to and from hospitals.
Teams from across the Council continue to grit footpaths in the city and town centres including Waterford city centre, Tramore and Dungarvan and this will continue throughout the day. Care is still needed on footpaths.
