Deadline for Community Monuments Fund

The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage is reminding applicants that the deadline for the 2025 Community Monuments Fund is approaching. With €7.4 million available, the fund supports the conservation, maintenance, and promotion of local archaeological monuments and historic sites.

In 2024, the fund supported over 140 projects nationwide. It aims to enhance access, improve climate resilience, and fund urgent conservation works, while providing employment for traditional skills practitioners.

The three streams of this funding support:

  • Repairs and capital works.
  • The development of conservation management plans.
  • Grants for enhancement of access infrastructure and interpretation at archaeological monuments.

Private applicants and/or community groups should submit to their local authority at a date specified by the local authority but not later than 31 January 2025. The local authority will submit their selection to DHLGH by 14 February 2025.

State-funded organisations working in the heritage area should submit any proposals to the department directly – email cmf@housing.gov.ie – on or before close of business on 14 February 2025.

Ina theannta sin, tá maoiniú ar fáil chun oiliúint a chur ar fáil a chabhróidh le féilte agus le himeachtaí áitiúla fás agus forbairt a dhéanamh.

In 2025, chomh maith le himeachtaí mór le rá ar nós Féile Idirnáisiúnta Ealaíon Sráide Spraoi, Féile Bia Phort Láirge, agus Winterval, tá trí fhéile déag nua le bheith ar siúl, lena n-áirítear Féile an Phasáiste Thoir, Samhradh ar an gCósta, Carnabhal an Oirdheiscirt, agus Féile Ceol Rithim & Gormacha na hAbhann, féiltí a chinnteoidh clár iontach, taitneamhach don bhliain amach romhainn.

Ag labhairt dó tar éis gur glacadh leis an maoiniú dos na féile agus na himeachtaí, dúirt Méara Chathair agus Chontae Phort Láirge, an Clr. Jason Murphy, “Tá an leibhéal tacaíochta ó Chomhairle Cathrach agus Contae Phort Láirge do na healaíona, do cheoltóirí agus do dhaoine cruthaitheacha thar a bheith suntasach agus tá sé ag dul i méid bliain i ndiaidh bliana.

“Idir na féilte fad-bhunaithe agus na féilte nua atá ar na bacáin, léiríonn na féilte seo an paisean, an dúthracht agus an chruthaitheacht iontach a shainíonn na pobail éagsúla ar fud chathair agus chontae Phort Láirge.

“Tá ríméad orm freisin go mbeidh trí cinn déag d’fhéilte nua ag tosú in 2025. Is léir go bhfuil raidhse cruthaitheachta agus samhlaíochta i bPort Láirge.”

Dúirt Michael Quinn, Stiúrthóir Seirbhísí le Comhairle Cathrach agus Contae Phort Láirge, “Tá Comhairle Cathrach agus Contae Phort Láirge an-bhródúil as a bheith ag cothú na bhféilte agus na n-imeachtaí bríomhara a thugann an pobal le chéile, ag cinntiú go leanann Port Láirge de bheith ina mol siamsaíochta éagsúil agus tarraingteach.

“I mbliana, le 13 fhéile nua chomh maith leis na cinn sean-bhunaithe, tá féilire cultúrtha Phort Láirge níos beoga ná riamh, le rud éigin ar fáil do gach duine chun taitneamh a bhaint as ó cheann ceann na bliana.”

Public Meetings this week : County Outdoor Recreation Plan in development for Waterford

Outdoor Recreation Plan - Poster

A five-year plan for outdoor recreation in Waterford is being developed for the first time in collaboration with a number of leading stakeholders.

These include Waterford City and County Council, Waterford Sports Partnership, Waterford Leader Partnership, Fáilte Ireland, Coillte, National Parks and Wildlife Service, and Get Ireland Walking who have joined together to steer the development of the plan, which is being facilitated by Outscape. It is important for everyone with an interest in the outdoors to get involved as your input will play a vital role in shaping a plan that reflects the county’s natural beauty and the aspirations of our community.

The aim of the plan is to promote the enjoyment of outdoor activities in our natural landscapes, while also ensuring that these activities are sustainable and accessible to a broad section of the population.

The meetings are taking place on the following dates:

  • Wednesday 29th January: 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm, SETU Arena, Carriganore, Waterford, X91 XD96
  • Thursday 30th January: 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm, The Park Hotel, Dungarvan, X35 CC97

Anyone interested in attending can register at this link – https://forms.office.com/e/Y33zPg2Jgh

It is hoped the plan will reflect the diversity of outdoor pursuits outlined in Embracing Ireland’s Outdoors, the national outdoor recreation strategy, and includes activities such as walking, hiking, cycling, mountain biking, fishing, horse riding, rock climbing, running, orienteering along with many water activities including open water swimming, surfing, kayaking, SUP, canoeing, sailing to name a few.  Air based activities such as paragliding or hang gliding are also included.

The development of this plan is made possible through funding from the Department of Rural and Community Development.
