Community Clean Up Grant available

Waterford City & County Council invites submissions from community groups or other community development organisations based in County Waterford, who are interested in receiving funding for a once off Community Clean Up Grant  of €500.

A grant of €500 will be made available to ten community groups who can clean up a local area this summer. Before, during and after photographs must be provided before payment can be made. Closing date for entries is 1st July 2019 at 5pm.

This grant is funded under the national Anti-Dumping Initiative 2019. 

Waterford City and County Council Community Enhancement Programme

The Community Enhancement Programme will fund projects that seek to enhance facilities and communities in disadvantaged areas.  This Programme will offer not-for-profit groups access to capital funding in order to kick-start, advance or complete their projects.  The Programme seeks to address some of the difficulties these groups face in terms of accessing small scale levels of funding to match their own fundraising efforts.

Poetry Ireland Access Cúirt bursary

Poetry Ireland and Cúirt International Festival of Literature are delighted to offer the Poetry Ireland Access Cúirt Bursary this spring. This will provide an emerging poet from a background that is currently statistically underrepresented in Irish poetry the opportunity to visit the festival and become immersed in the poetry programme. The bursary includes tickets to all events and workshops, accommodation for five nights, travel costs to Galway and a per diem.

Applications are invited from poets from minority ethnic and socio economically disadvantaged backgrounds, poets with disabilities, and poets who identify as LGBTQI+. This bursary is only open to poets who are currently based on the island of Ireland. To apply please send a short expression of interest statement (no more than a page) in an attached Word document, outlining why your work would benefit from this support to info@poetryireland.ie by 5.00pm on Friday 15 March.

The Town and Village Renewal Scheme is a key part of the Action Plan for Rural Development – Realising our Rural Potential and the recently announced Project Ireland 2040 and is designed to help rural Ireland achieve its full economic and social potential.  The focus of the Town & Village Renewal Scheme is on improving the economic development of rural towns and villages and making them more attractive places to live and work and increase their tourism potential.

Waterford City & County Council now seeks expressions of interest from towns and villages for funding of suitable projects under this initiative. Built Heritage Investment Scheme & Historic Structures Fund 2019 announced

The Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht announced has announced 2 funding schemes for Protected Structures – the Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) 2019 and the Historic Structures Fund (HSF) 2019.  Funding for the Historic Structures Fund is being made available as part of Investing in our Culture, Language and Heritage 2018-2027.

Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) 2019 
The BHIS scheme seeks to leverage private capital for investment in small-scale, labour-intensive projects and to support the employment of skilled and experienced conservation professionals, craftspeople and trades persons in the repair of Protected Structures and in certain cases, the conservation of structures within Architectural Conservation Areas (ACA).  Waterford has been allocated €114,000. Funding awards made under the scheme will be between €2,500 and €15,000, with applicants matching the grants being awarded.

The Historic Structures Fund (HSF) 2019
The primary focus of the HSF will be on conservation and enhancement of historic structures and buildings for the benefit of communities and the public. The funding will

  • enable larger scale conservation works to be carried out on heritage structures which are deemed to be significant and in need of urgent support;
  • encourage the regeneration and reuse of heritage properties and to help to secure the preservation of protected structures and/or historic-culturally significant assets;
  • support the investment of private capital in labour-intensive projects to conserve historic structures in public and private ownership for community use

Stream 1 will offer grants from €15,000 up to €50,000 and is aimed at essential repairs and smaller capital works for the refurbishment and conservation of heritage structures. Stream 2 will offer a small number of grants from €50,000 up to €200,000 for larger enhancement, refurbishment or reuse projects involving heritage structures, where a clear community or public benefit has been demonstrated.

These schemes will be administered by Waterford City and County Council. The criteria, list of qualifying works and the application forms for the Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2019 and Historic Structures Fund 2019 are  HERE.

Completed application forms and photos of the structures must be submitted by email only  to rryall@waterfordcouncil.ie,  by 5 pm on  28th of January 2019. The Department will formally approve projects for funding by 1st of March 2019. Successful applicants must have the works completed by 27th of September 2019.

Waterford receives €756,000 funding in 2018 Town and Village Renewal Scheme funding

Cllr. Declan Doocey, Mayor of Waterford welcomes the announcement by Minister Ring of the allocation of funding under Town and Village Renewal Scheme 2018

The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring TD, today (5th October 2018) announced that 224 rural towns and villages across the country are set to benefit from over €21 million in funding under the 2018 Town and Village Renewal Scheme. Waterford has benefitted in 9 rural towns and villages and has been awarded in excess €750,000.

The 2018 Town and Village Renewal Scheme, which was launched in April this year, focuses on projects which can help to enhance rural towns and villages, with a particular emphasis on stimulating economic development. Funding awarded to individual towns and villages this year generally ranges from €20,000 to €100,000, with 30 projects receiving between €100,000 and €200,000 for more ambitious proposals.

Examples of Waterford projects being supported in today’s announcement are:

  • €100,000 for the upgrade of the Pilgrim Path Walk at Ardmore.
  • €64,000 for the erection of interactive and interpretive signage in An Rinn.
  • €100,000 for the restoration of the Station House and Signal Box and associated Public Realm works at Kilmacthomas.
  • €96,000 to create a Cycle/walk link from Waterford Greenway to Kilmeaden village
  • €80,000 awarded to the Waterford Estuary project to upgrade and extend the Cliff Walk.

Welcoming the funding Councillor Declan Doocey, Mayor of the City and County of Waterford said: “This is really positive news for nine of our towns and villages all across Waterford and the allocation of this funding under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme is an important part of the Government’s work to rejuvenate rural Ireland and is having a significant impact on towns and villages across the country”

The Town and Village Renewal Scheme is a key part of the Government’s Action Plan for Rural Development. The Town and Village Renewal scheme is an initiative under the Government’s Action Plan for Rural Development, Realising our Rural Potential, and is part of a suite of national and local support measures to rejuvenate rural towns and villages throughout Ireland. It is funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development and is administered by the Local Authorities.

Under the 2018 scheme, up to 80% of the total cost for each approved project will be provided by the Department, with the remaining 20% being provided either through community contribution and/or the Local Authority.

A wide variety of projects have been approved under the 2018 scheme.  These projects have been identified by local community groups and businesses, in conjunction with their Local Authorities.  Projects approved range from employment initiatives to tourism amenities, and other measures aimed to help make small towns and villages more attractive and more sustainable places in which to live and work.

The Town and Village Renewal Scheme was launched in the second half of 2016 with a budget of €10 million.  A total of 170 projects were approved under the scheme in 2016.  A further 281 projects were approved for a total of €21.6 million under the 2017 scheme. Today’s announcement brings the number of projects approved under the scheme since 2016 to more than 670.

‘Choice Based Lettings Scheme’ now established in Waterford

Over 150 houses and apartments have been allocated through Waterford City & County Council’s Choice Based Letting system since it was introduced in September 2016.

From next year over 80% of the Council’s allocations will be made through Choice Based Letting.

Approved applicants for social housing, including HAP tenants, can apply on Choice Based Letting, where the applicant themselves indicates a property or properties they are interested in being housed in.

If you are approved for social housing then you should express an interest on the online system to be considered for a housing allocation.

Smart Lighting Grant from SEAI

The Sustainable Energy Authority Ireland (SEAI) is now accepting applications from businesses for €3 million in government-funded smart lighting grants.

The grant will cover approximately one third of the cost of energy efficient lighting upgrades helping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) save up to 90% on their lighting costs. These smart lighting upgrades will typically pay for themselves in two to three years.

The grant is open to all SMEs sectors including retail, hospitality, tourism, private education, health facilities, and manufacturing. Apply via the SEAI’s website: https://www.seai.ie
